Gay Documentary Poster Ideas

We did preliminary poster designs for our film and this was my idea, it depicts the people that we've interviewed all wearing stonewall T-shirts which say 'Some people are gay. Get over it.' They all look happy to show they are proud of their sexuality. I included the title underneath which has not yet been decided and the tag line which reads 'Male, Female, Gay, Straight, Above all human.' Which was adapted from a video done by 'Chris Crocker' on youtube.

However I no longer like this poster idea i feel it looks too light hearted and as a group wed decided that the documentary should have a more serious note to it seeing at it was a very serious issue in our society.

My parts in the powerpoint presentation

In our presentation I contributed mainly to the audience research parts of the powerpoint, however i also constructed most of the other slides such as the location, conclusion and the questionnaire results.

In the further audience research i spent a great deal of time thinking of the most common ways teenagers recieved their news, then thought of the most popular site which was of course YouTube. The site which reached over one billion subscribers on october 29th 2010.

I did lots of research in to how homophobic bullying was percieved online and many reactions on how homophobia and homosexuality is being delt with around the world.

Survey Results

We collected together forty-one results from the survey, which i personally counted through every single survey, and tallied up the results then inputted it onto excel and created pie charts in order to present them to our class.

Survey

I created the survey with the help of my group, when it came to handing out the questionnaires my team mate freddie and i went to pass them out amongst our peers in our school, we encountered a varied set of results, from people whom were strongly apposed to homophobic bullying, to people who refused to do the survey because they were extremely homophobic.

The majority of the people were very helpful and a few had questions, however there were some who expressed their distaste at the fact that we're doing a film that involves gay people, this is something we hope to change, i hope that by the end of this film that we are able to make homophobia the last taboo in Dunraven.
Nowadays you cant be racist or sexist in public, it's just deemed unacceptable, we hope to make homophobia the same, and all though we're not aiming to change the world we hope our contribution will help to open peoples minds.

Two short film reviews

Mud boy:
Film about a little girl who finds her brother dead in the back garden, killed and buried by her mothers abusive boyfriend, she's so traumatised that she doesnt realise he's dead, but continues to talk and play with him as though he's alive, it ends with the police turning up and finding the body of the little boy.

This film was extreamly moving, i found it had an amazing impact because very much like other short films it had a surprising twist, also the child actors had a great deal of skill to carry that out correctly, my only concern is that i would be unable to duplicate this given only five minuets seeing as this film is ten.

Homophobia In schools:
A documentary where children interview other people from their school in order to ascertain how they feel about gay people, if it's right to be homosexual etc.

I didnt really enjoy this documentary, though it did ask some important questions, it could have been handeled in a different way to help engage the audience, also the entire way through the camera was handheld which i found to be odd because it's not typical to the genre and didnt really fit, furthemore if they had perhaps done more with the sound it could have been more engaging, as it was i felt i had seen all the documentary was going to offer me after the first couple of minuets.

Short Film Ideas - Homophobic Bullying

Homophobic Bullying

Film Idea 1: Documentary

A closer look at dunraven and how it views homosexuality.
Interviews with people who are okay with it.
Interviews with people who arent. why do you see it as wrong
Interviews with people who are openly gay, have they ever been bullied for it, how has it changed who they are.
Interviews with teachers maybe ? (do they ever have to stop homophobic bullying)

Film Idea 2: Fiction

A drama about a girl who has to deal with homophobic bullying  because she's openly gay, you see her being teased bullied (pieces of paper thrown at her etc).
Small cuts to another girl who's seeing all this happen. Its implied that she's gay but hasnt come out.
Ends with the closeted one defending the openly gay girl and then simply holding her hand. ECU of them holding hands. Sort of romantic ending.

What is a short film?

A short film can be defined as a film that can range from five to forty-five minuets long.

Wikipedia:
Short film is a technical description originally coined in the North American film industry in the early period of cinema. The description is now used almost interchangeably with short subject. Either term is often abbreviated to short (as a noun, e.g., "a short"). A trailer for a feature length film is sometimes mistakenly referred to as a "short" for the complete film.

Examples of short films are:
